Department of War’s Project Agincourt Accelerates Autonomous Warfare Command to Drive Battlefield Adaptation at Scale

In an open letter to the Joint Force and industry partners today, Project Agincourt leaders Hon. Owen West and Senior Chief Max Strasiser announced the operational roadmap to establish the Autonomous Warfare Command (AUTOWARCOM). Emphasizing that “urgency does not excuse imprecision,” West and Strasiser outlined a combat-first model that pushes procurement decisions and dollars directly to frontline warfighters, measuring success not by paperwork milestones, but by how fast an operational problem receives a fielded, scalable solution on the battlefield.

Watch Secretary of War Pete Hegseth join Acting Secretary of the Army Adam Telle, Acting Secretary of the Navy Hung Cao, Secretary of the Air Force Troy Meink, and Assistant Secretary of War for Special Operations and Low-Intensity Conflict Derek Anderson for a panel on Project Agincourt and the future of autonomous warfare.
“Agincourt has two missions. First, stand up a four-star Autonomous Warfare Command (AUTOW ARCOM) by October 1, 2027, with the authority its commander needs to drive the largest institutional change since the interwar years. Second, continue the mission of the Direct Reporting Portfolio Manager for Unmanned Systems (DRPM-UxS) while pioneering a new acquisition model that pairs autonomous and robotics companies directly with operational forces at the edge. The goal is not a particular drone. It is a system built to adapt at scale.”
