Strategic Horizons is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal published by Air University Press. Our mission is to advance intellectual debate, stimulate innovative thinking, and provide actionable insights on global security, deterrence, and the strategic application of air, space, and cyber power. As the landscape of global conflict evolves, Strategic Horizons serves as a critical forum for military practitioners, defense analysts, academics, and policymakers to dissect emerging threats and conceptualize future operating environments
Themes & Topics of Interest
We welcome original research, critical essays, and analytical commentaries. For our upcoming issues, we are particularly interested in manuscripts addressing the following core themes:
Integrated Deterrence & Great-Power Competition: Strategic stability, grey-zone conflicts, and counter-coercion strategies.
• Multi-Domain Operations: The integration of air, space, cyberspace, land, and maritime capabilities to achieve strategic objectives.
• Emerging Technologies & Future Warfare: The strategic implications of Artificial Intelligence (AI), autonomous systems, hypersonic weapons, and quantum computing on military doctrine.
• Space Domain Superiority: Disbursed space architectures, orbital logistics, planetary defense politics, and the security of critical space-based infrastructure.
• Agile Combat Employment (ACE) & Logistics: Sustaining combat power in contested, degraded, and operationally limited environments.
•Joint & Coalition Interoperability: Strengthening alliances, security cooperation, and shared doctrinal evolution.
Submission Categories
• Word Count: Manuscripts should typically range between 5,000 and 8,000 words (inclusive of footnotes).
• Style: Submissions must follow the Chicago Manual of Style (Notes and Bibliography system).
• Formatting: Double-spaced, 12-pt Times New Roman font, with 1-inch margins. Please submit manuscripts as Microsoft Word documents (.doc or .docx).
• Anonymity: To facilitate double-blind peer review, please ensure the manuscript body contains no self-identifying references or author names. Include a separate cover sheet with author names, institutional affiliations, and a brief 150-word biography.
• Abstract: All submissions must include a 150–200 word abstract and 4–6 keywords.
• Security Clearance: Active-duty military and DoD civilian authors are strictly responsible for ensuring their submissions have cleared appropriate public affairs (PA) and security review channels prior to final publication
