Drone War Comes For Civilians in Sudan: Sky News Image

Sky News reports in this video that drone strikes targeting civilians have surged in Sudan in recent months as the RSF and SAF look to expand their respective territory, leading to hundreds of civilian fatalities.

Numbers Tell the Story

198 total drone strikes in 2026 have killed 478 people as of 12 March. 52 of these attacks involved civilians. In a two day window last month more than 60 people were killed by drones, of whom 15 were children. An RSF triple drone strike on a hospital and kindergarten killed 114 people, 43 of whom were children. Aid convoys are also being targeted.

The reach of deadly drone strikes touches all of Sudan.

Nowhere to Go

Refugees are finding it hard to escape to safety. Neighboring countries to the east, south and west are dealing with their own intrastrate conflicts. To the north, Egypt has been deporting Sudanese en masse. Even the UK government recently revoked student visas for Sudanese nationals, putting the residency of 300 students in jeopardy.

No End in Sight

Scenes of Khartoum evoke destruction and continuous danger from above. Sky News describes the RSF’s capture of al-Fashr as having the hallmarks of genocide. The “haunting cycle of violence,” the report concludes, continues.
