This CBC news update reports that Canada is the first country to formally list the online extremist network “764” as a terrorist entity, alongside Maniac Murder Cult, Terrorgram Collective, and Islamic State–Mozambique.
The Canadian government states that 764 is a decentralized, transnational network that spreads nihilistic ideals and seeks “to destroy civilized society through violence and chaos, not as a step towards a new ‘state’ but rather as an end itself.”
Public Safety Canada says the listings are meant to counter violent extremism and the online radicalization of youth by giving law enforcement and intelligence agencies stronger disruption tools—especially freezing and reporting assets to the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS), criminalizing knowing participation in financial/property dealings that benefit the group, and supporting related criminal investigations.
