BACK TO ISIS: U.S. forces have restarted military operations against the Islamic State in Iraq, The New York Times reports, 10 days after U.S. troops hit pause on the mission to focus on protecting bases from Iran.
Two U.S. officials “said the military wanted to resume operations against the Islamic State as soon as possible to blunt any momentum the group might have and to stifle any propaganda victory it might claim because the United States had suspended the operation.”
NEW CAMPAIGN: “A conservative veterans’ group backed by the Koch family is launching a multimillion-dollar ad blitz in three presidential battleground states Thursday, seeking to tap into rising public support for withdrawing all American troops from Afghanistan,” our colleague Bryan Bender writes.
“The appeal organized by Concerned Veterans for America — “Tell Washington it’s time to bring our troops home!” — marks a new and more aggressive effort to roust voters in both parties to demand an end to America’s longest war, which has killed nearly 2,400 American troops since 2001, including two more who died in a blast last weekend.”…
