Listen in on a conversation with Amy J. Nelson on her new book, The Arms Control Paradox: Managing Uncertainty in an Insecure World, moderated by Peter Bergen of Arizona State University. As treaties collapse, major powers race to militarize new domains, and actors develop weapons technology at unprecedented speed, the international security landscape has never felt more uncertain. Nelson argues that this uncertainty is precisely what makes traditional arms control approaches fall short— and what makes reaching new agreements so difficult. Drawing on years of research and policy experience, Nelson proposes a different approach: one that focuses on managing ambiguity rather than eliminating it.
Nelson is a Senior Fellow directing the Future Security Scenarios Lab, and an adjunct professor at Georgetown University. Come hear her valuable insights on the future of arms control, supported by her time at the U.S. Department of State, the National Defense University, and The Brookings Institution. Nelson will be in conversation with Bergen, Vice President of Global Studies & Fellows at New America.
