Army Mad Scientist Laboratory Launches New Virtual Speaker Series

Small Wars Journal would like to shine a light on the important work being done at the U.S. Army Mad Scientist Laboratory. They have announced the launch of a new virtual Speaker Series designed to convene subject matter experts from across government, academia, and industry. The series will explore a range of topics central to the future operational environment, including evolving threat capabilities, emerging technologies, and forward-looking strategic concepts.
The inaugural session, “Next-Gen Technology and the Army’s Transformation,” featured Dr. Alexander Kott, former Chief Scientist of the Army Research Laboratory. Dr. Kott addressed how the U.S. Army can anticipate and prepare for disruptive “black swan” technologies while better aligning science and technology (S&T), transformation efforts, and futurist communities.
The event was held virtually via ZoomGov on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, from 1200–1300 EDT, and included a live Q&A session following the presentation.
This series represents a continued effort by Army Mad Scientist to foster dialogue and collaboration across the defense and national security ecosystem on the challenges shaping the future fight.
