“Prof. Bennoune specializes in public international law and international human rights law, with a focus on culture, extremism, terrorism, and women’s rights. She served as the UN special rapporteur in the field of cultural rights from 2015 to 2021, was appointed as an expert at the International Criminal Court, and has addressed the UN Security Council about gender apartheid in Afghanistan. Previously, she was on faculty at the University of California, Davis School of Law and the Rutgers School of Law-Newark.
