Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency’s Center for Development of Security Excellence (CDSE) is hosting a webinar entitled, “Understanding Murder-Suicide: Considerations for Threat Assessment” on February 13, 2025 from 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm ET.

Description of the event from DCSA:

It is estimated to be only approximately 1-3% of individuals who die by suicide have also committed an act of violence prior to their death. What many professionals don’t realize is the connection between suicidal thoughts and homicidal thoughts. Thus, suicide prevention is also homicide prevention. This training will explore the overlap in Thomas Joiner’s work related to murder-suicide in connection with bodies of literature discussing threat assessment. Joiner poses 4 categories of murder-suicide as mercy, justice, duty, and glory. This training will explore several cases of mass violence and apply Joiner’s categories to each.
