I read the article about a Cold War in the “Arabian” Gulf up to the point where they referred to an IRGC-AF Su-25 as a “fighter”. That’s like referring to a USAF A-10 or Luftwaffe Ju-87 Stuka as a fighter aircraft.

And I’m not so sure that IRIAF F-4 was actually intent on engaging the MQ-1. The IRIAF has maintained its U.S. military training and tactics, and sending out a lone interceptor just doesn’t make sense. More likely it was a training sortie for a Phantom from the “Sharks of Bushehr” TFW that encountered the MQ-1 and its escorts, or possibly even a RF-4E recon mission.
