Greenert Tapped to be Next CNO by Chris Carroll, Stars and Stripes. BLUF: “Adm. Jonathan W. Greenert, vice chief of naval operations, has been nominated for the Navy’s top job, Secretary of Defense Robert Gates said Thursday. Greenert, a submariner, served as commander of U.S. Fleet Forces Command from 2007 to 2009. From 2004 to 2006, he served as commander of the U.S. Seventh Fleet.”
