There’s a first-hand account by Marine Captain Alexander Martin on the ‘Net providing in the weeds details on 15th MEU’s takedown and rescue aboard the German-owned cargo ship Magellan Star off the coast of Yemen yesterday – and the USNI Blog has it here. We can’t wait for the movie. Job well done Marines!
Good to see the US take the lead in this anti-piracy action. Heartening to see that at platoon level the requisite skills are there and available at a moments notice. Lets hope that this brave and courageous action will give heart to the other timid forces positioned off the coast of Somalia to follow the US example.
One can, however, only be absolutely amazed that the decision to proceed had to be made in the Oval Office. Is this level of micro management the norm?
