Forever War

Jules Crittenden has a nice piece up on Forward Movement, Forever War, about Dexter Filkens of The New York Times.

Straightforward piece of work suggests someone who knows what he’s doing, doesn’t mess around, keeps his head and lets it tell itself. Could stand as a great tutorial for Journalism 101, or Advanced War Reporting, the graduate seminar. You still have to be a reporter, and do the basic job. I don’t want to think about how you get that good at that and what you walk away with. It’s too early in the morning.

Much more at Forward Movement.

With the amount of griping about the media, especially the NYT, it is important to support the journalists that do a solid job. Filkens and his colleague at the Times CJ Chivers have done some outstanding work.

bourbon, I agree wholeheartedly. Funny animals those media bashers are, they making sweeping judgments concerning journalists based on their outlet venue.

Vito, I don’t think you do agree with bourbon after all. He seems to be saying “yes indeed, Filkins and a couple others are the exception that proves the rule” about journalists. I think you took him to mean “yeah, take THAT, you media-bashers!”

If I’m wrong on either count then please, either of you, correct me.
