Trump signals US to start ‘hitting’ drug cartels by land in Mexico

In a new USA TODAY report, President Trump told Fox News the United States will soon begin “hitting” drug cartels “by land” and indicated operations could take place in Mexico. He framed the move as an expansion of recent U.S. counternarcotics actions, including maritime interdictions in the Caribbean and the Jan. 3 capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro on drug trafficking charges.

President Trump argued “the cartels are running Mexico” and said the U.S. may act if Mexico does not, while Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum emphasized ongoing security coordination with the United States and pointed to joint work on dismantling drug labs.
