Although many of the questions and answers are pro forma he does offer a number of important insights into his vision and philosophy. He covers a lot of ground in this 30 page Q&A that should give the SOF enterprise a good understanding of the direction he will take. He discusses the dual role of ASD/W SO/LIC in Sec 922 – SOF policy and service secretariat role and responsibilities. He describes his role in information operations (Page 21). Perhaps most importantly to some (with a certain bias) he provides detailed answers to questions about irregular warfare (Page 17).
Green Beret now ASD SO/LIC
Derrick Anderson has been confirmed as the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Special Operations and Low Intensity Conflict (ASD SO/LIC). The former Green Beret will be advising the undersecretary of defense for policy and will oversee and advocate for SOF and IW within the Department of Defense. Anderson has served on the National Security Council and within the Department of the Army. While in the Army he served as an ODA commander and company executive officer.
