On July 1, 2025, the Center for Asia Pacific Strategy (CAPS) received a formal invitation to the United Kingdom Parliament. This invitation was extended to request expert testimony from CAPS on Asia-Pacific security policy. This engagement establishes a significant precedent, marking the inaugural instance in which a U.S. policy group has been formally invited to address the UK Parliament. Previously, American invitees have included high-level officials such as the United States Special Envoy for North Korean Human Rights, sitting Members of Congress, and Special Policy Advisors from both the Department of State and the White House. This event provided a timely and critical platform for discussing the prevailing international geopolitical landscape.
CAPS provided three presentations that can be found in the report.
Part 1: Introduction to the Center for Asia Pacific Strategy
By Hee-Eun Kim, CAPS President & CEO
Part 2: “Opportunities, Engagement and Challenges in Relation to North Korea”
By Dr. Thomas Schäfer, CAPS Senior Advisor
Part 3: “America First, Allies Always: Securing the Asia/Indo-Pacific Together”
By David Maxwell, CAPS Vice President
