Research Study: Veterans’ Experiences with Autonomous Systems

Purpose
This research aims to understand how autonomous targeting and designation systems are
reshaping decision-making and accountability within the U.S. military chain of command. The
project will document veterans’ firsthand experiences and perspectives to inform broader
discussions on the role of autonomous systems in military operations.
Study Details
● Format – Confidential, one-on-one interviews (15-60 mins)
● Location – Flexible, can be conducted at a neutral site in El Paso, phone, or over Zoom
● Confidentiality – NO identifying information collected, all responses anonymized
Participant Criteria
● U.S. military veterans from any branch
● Direct or indirect experience with autonomous targeting, fire-control, or decision-support
systems
● Comfortable discussing non-classified aspects of their work and experiences
● Active-duty service members or contractors currently bound by non-disclosure
agreements will not be included
