The Defense of Jisr al-Doreaa, redux
Thanks to Mike Burgoyne for his recent email. He and co-author Albert Marckwardt previously provided SWJ readers a short story relevant to small unit leaders. Now you can get all that and more in their book, The Defense of Jisr al-Doreaa. The book has a forward by John Nagl and is bundled with the Defence of Duffer’s Drift by E.D. Swinton.
Of particular note on the book’s website are their practical exercises — OPDs in their parlance, but TDGs to many of us — complete with instructor guides, etc.
Wonderful…really enjoyed reading all of that, and look forward to the book. I visited the book Web site and don’t see a way to contact the authors. Are there any plans at all to release the book for the Amazon Kindle? I just requested a Kindle version at Amazon’s page for the book, but wasn’t sure if the authors have an influence on that as well.
Glad to hear it. Kindle is a great idea. I’ll see what the publisher says.
I’d be interested to hear their response. I recently contacted another publisher (Oxford University Press), asking if another book (The Accidental Guerrilla) could be released on Kindle, and they said that it’s really up to Amazon. My understanding from the Amazon community boards was that it was up to the author/publisher (for example, JK Rowling won’t allow any of her books to be offered in a Kindle version ( http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22188989/ )).
I will follow this thread, if you don’t mind. I’d love to hear any progress toward offering it on a Kindle. Thank you for writing what sounds to be a wonderful addition to the COIN library.
John,
I spoke with the publisher and they have a magic number of copies sold before they allow the book to go to a Kindle media. I’ll update here, http://www.defenseofJAD.com and on Facebook
http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#/group.php?gid=54169641341
when the publisher allows the format.
All the best
Mike
Wonderful, thanks! Hopefully you get to that magic number!
Thanks for getting back to me!
and…John looks like the book is now avaiable in Kindle. Thanks for your interest.
Mike
And it’s ordered…thank you very much!!!!
