Jacob Townsend has developed unique expertise in developing networks of civil society organisations across South Sudan and other countries experiencing conflict, such as Afghanistan and Pakistan. He has spent several years collecting and analysing security and political information from remote areas of South Sudan, including through contact with a range of officials in the UNDPKO. Jacob has worked for the UN in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Timor-Leste, and with the Australian Strategic Policy Institute on issues affecting Australia's security interests.
