تستخدم المعقمات مادتي البروم…
تستخدم المعقمات مادتي البروم والكلور لتعقيم المياه، وهي من أشهر المواد الكيميائية المستخدمة لهذا، حيث يكون الكلور المستخدم في التعقيم على شكل ألواح أو حبيبات سائلة أو على شكل سائل، أما البروم فيكون على شكل خليط كيميائي جاف أو قضبان أو ألواح، وتعقم هذه المواد المياه من الجراثيم والبكتيريا وتمنع نمو الطحالب.
يتم أولاً قياس مستوى القاعدية والحمضية للمياه، ويجب أن تكون القيمة بين 7.2 و7.8، فإذا كانت القيمة أقل من هذا أدى إلى تآكل طبقات البركة، أما إذا كانت القيمة أعلى أدى إلى إصابة بمياه البركة بالعكورة، وتقليل كفاءة تعقيم البروم والكلور، وإغلاق المرشح، لذلك يتم وضع مواد للحفاظ على مستوى القلوية للمياه بإذافة حمض السيانوريك، أما مستوى الحامضية فيتم رفعه بإضافة بيكربونات الصوديوم أو بودرة الصودا، ويُستخدم أيضاً ثنائي فوسفات الصوديوم أو حمض المورياتيك لخفض مستوى الفاعلية كما يجب الحفاظ على القلوية الكلية التي يجب أن تكون بين 90 إلى 150 جزءاً بالمليون
