President Trump on Friday again announced the Islamic State’s nearly five-year territorial grip in Syria had ended, even as Pentagon officials and U.S.-backed ground forces said they were still fighting.
The president’s declaration Friday marked at least the fifth time in four months that he had either declared the war was over or would soon be, most recently two days ago outside the White House.
“It’s about time,” the president said Friday.
