Green Berets Train Polish, Latvian Resistance Units in West Virginia by Kyle Rempfer – Army Times

U.S. Army Special Forces soldiers completed the first irregular and unconventional warfare training iteration for members of the Polish Territorial Defense Forces and Latvian Zemmessardze as a part of the Ridge Runner program in West Virginia, according to service officials.

The Green Berets, who are with 2nd Battalion, 19th Special Forces Group and the West Virginia Army National Guard, use the Ridge Runner exercise to offer U.S. troops and NATO allied forces training in asymmetrical warfare.

From our article above:

"This summer, Latvia and Poland traveled to West Virginia for the program. Both nations have newly invigorated homeland defense forces capable of pushing back against an invading force and opposing a potential occupation.

The units are trained to provide response during the early stages of a hybrid conflict. Their tasks could include slowing the advancing units of an aggressor nation by destroying key transportation infrastructure such as bridges, attacking enemy forces at choke points and potentially serving as forward observers for NATO aircraft responding with airstrikes."

Questions:

With regard to such things "hybrid warfare" (see my quoted second paragraph above), are we:

a.  Ignoring the "real battlefield?"  And, likewise,

b.  Ignoring the fact that the "war" has largely already been "won?" This,

c.  By our opponents?

From a recent "The Hill" article:

BEGIN QUOTE

A group of national security experts testified Tuesday on Capitol Hill about the rise of authoritarianism, warning lawmakers that countries such as China and Russia are seeking to gain power by undermining democratic systems.

In a hearing before the House Intelligence Committee, former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, former NATO Secretary General Anders Rasmussen, Open Constitution Initiative co-founder Teng Biao and Center for a New American Security’s transatlantic security expert Andrea Kendall-Taylor said there are indicators popping up worldwide that suggest a growing return to dictators and despots.

“Warning signs abound across the globe: the discarding of mainstream politicians, the emergence of leaders who seek to divide rather than unite, the purist of political victory at all costs and the invocation of national greatness by people who identify greatness only with themselves,” Albright told the committee in her opening remarks.

“Tyranny is once again awakening from its slumber,” Rasmussen said in his opening remarks, echoing Albright.

The experts warned that authoritarianism is beginning to replace democracy, in countries such as Turkey, the Philippines, Hungary, Poland, Brazil and Egypt — as well as in China and Russia.

Bottom Line Thought -- Based on the Above:

So while:

a.  OUR national security personnel were (and still are it would seem -- see our article above) guarding the "front door" -- the physical border/barrier -- between (a) such countries as Russia and China and (b) states and societies that are our allies/that we consider important,

b. THEIR nation security personnel were attacking through the "back door" -- the intellectual border -- between such entities.

(Thus, where are our "intellectual" troops -- our "intellectual" special forces -- whom we can now employ and deploy -- to stand hard against, defeat and indeed reverse -- this "rise of authoritarianism" "existential threat"  trend?)
