Joelle Thorpe

BIO

Joelle Thorpe received her Master of Science degree in Biology from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada in 2009, and earned her doctorate in Psychology, Neuroscience and Behaviour from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada in 2013. Her research interests include neuroendocrinology, stress physiology, and the influence of psychological stress on reproduction. During her time as a Clinical Research Associate from 2014 to 2016, Dr. Thorpe developed an interest in ethics, and sat as a board member on the Queen’s University & Affiliated Teaching Hospitals Health Sciences Research Ethics Board. She is currently a Mitacs Canadian Science Policy Fellow, working in the Office of the Chief Scientist at Defence Research and Development Canada. Here, Dr. Thorpe is part of a team investigating the potential ethical issues and policy implications associated with emerging human enhancement technology use in the military.
